October invites us to pause, reflect, and recommit to supporting the millions of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

On October 4th, Mario Antwine, Pearl CEO, and his family proudly participated in NAMIWalks, a national movement to raise awareness for mental health and build community support. NAMIWalks is the mental health world’s beacon of hope for good reasons: the energy and impact of individuals who have heartfelt stories to tell. The walk wasn’t just a symbolic gesture – it was a statement: We see you. We walk with you. You are not alone.
For Mario Antwine, Pearls CEO, the walk held special meaning.
“My brother has been living with schizophrenia for over two decades,” shared Antwine. “Watching him navigate life with courage, despite the stigma and misunderstanding, inspired me to become an advocate for mental health awareness. His strength reminds me daily that compassion, understanding, and community can change lives—and that no one should ever have to face their journey alone.”
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Through education, support groups, and national advocacy, NAMI empowers individuals and families with hope and help. Join NAMI in your local community or donate to a worthy cause at NAMIWalks.org
Why Mental Illness Awareness Month Matters

While many countries have bolstered their mental health policies and programs, greater investment and action are needed globally to scale up services to protect and promote people’s mental health.
Mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression are highly prevalent in all countries and communities, affecting people of all ages and income levels. They represent the second biggest reason for long-term disability, contributing to loss of healthy life. They drive up health-care costs for affected people and families while inflicting substantial economic losses on a global scale.[i] Read more
