Pearl’s Workforce Development Referrals Manager, Sherica Rhymes, CWDP shares mentorship experience and success working with the Utah Governor’s Flash Mentor Program.
Pearl’s Talent Acquisition’s Outreach and Referral Team was invited to participate in the Utah Governor’s Flash Mentorship Program. As a social enterprise dedicated to removing barriers to employment, I was excited to volunteer my time and expertise as a mentor. This incredible initiative pairs mentors with participants to assess their career goals, workforce development needs, and provide valuable guidance. I had the privilege of working with Darlene D., a seasoned customer service professional with over 22 years of experience, reentering the workforce.
Through open and honest discussions, Darlene shared her career aspirations, the challenges she faced, and areas she wanted to improve. This collaborative approach allowed us to identify key workforce dynamics and develop strategies to enhance Darlene’s resume, cover letter, and interview skills. We were able to address application concerns, refine interview approaches, and understand the nuances of interview protocols.
Over an intense yet productive week, we revised Darlene’s resume, crafting versions tailored to specific job roles. This interactive process empowered Darlene, providing her with the tools and confidence to effectively communicate her skills and experiences to potential employers.
At the conclusion of the Flash Mentorship program, Darlene was equipped with necessary strategies such as when to apply to roles utilizing versions of her resume best suited, interview etiquette, and skills to promote experience verbally and in written communication. Participation in the program led to an interview for one of Pearl’s Remote CSR I roles in which Darlene successfully interviewed and was offered the position! We are excited to have Darlene become a member of Team Pearl and are looking forward to supporting her career path with us.
