Greg Cobble has been named this year’s Toys for tots Representative for Clark, Powell, and Estill Counties. As a representative, Greg will coordinate the collection and distribution of toys for children who might not otherwise receive much for Christmas.
Greg is a veteran of the Marine Corps and has been employed with Pearl for 2 ½ years. He attended training for the position in September and is excited about the opportunity. “It’s a chance to help children who may not get any presents for Christmas and for parents who can’t afford much because their money is going for bills,” Greg said.
Toys for tots is an official activity of the U.S. Marine Corps and covers all 50 states by authorizing selected Marine Corps league detachments and selected local community organizations to conduct Toy collection and distribution campaigns.
“Most representatives are Marines, but you don’t have to be,” Greg said.
Greg is no stranger to charity work. “I am in the American Legion and an American Legion Rider. We do a lot of charity rides every year.” Greg shared.
Pearl Interactive Network is proud to highlight the good deeds of one of our employees and the entire team as they have contributed to the cause by donating many toys this year. “We try every year to support a cause, and Toys for tots is a wonderful way to help our communities’ children,” said Site Director Brenda Wingert.
Local Toy collection campaigns begin in October and last until mid to late December. Toy distribution also takes place mid to late December. Members of the community drop new, unwrapped toys in collection boxes positioned in local businesses. Coordinators pick up these toys and store them in central warehouses where the toys are sorted. At Christmas, Coordinators, with the assistance of local social welfare agencies, church groups, and other local community agencies, distribute the toys to the less fortunate children of the community. Over the years, Marines have established close working relationships with social welfare agencies, churches and other local community agencies which are well qualified to identify the needy children in the community and play important roles in the distribution of the toys.
Over its life span, the Marine Toys for tots Program has distributed over 512 million toys to over 237 million children.
At Pearl we strive to connect with our local communities and we are proud of our employees for helping us accomplish this goal year after year. We thank and congratulate our employees who participated in the 2017 Toys for tots program.
