Birgit Fry gets hired, promoted within two years
When you’re married to someone in the military, it can sometimes be difficult to pursue a stable career. Birgit Fry knows all too well the challenges that come with being a military spouse. She met her husband in Germany while he was in the U.S. Army. Since they married, she’s lived in Illinois, New York, Okinawa, and California.
While living in Germany, Fry worked as an interpreter for the police. After moving to the U.S. she worked in various administrative assistant positions – most recently for a child care center at Fort Drum in New York. But her employment choices were limited to the areas in which her husband was stationed. “Switching locations gets tiring,” she explained. “You cannot really have a career when you have to move every 3-4 years.”
When her husband finally retired from the military, they moved to Kentucky – leaving the cold winters of northern New York behind them. Knowing that Kentucky would be their final home, Fry began to search for a permanent job. Through an online search of administrative positions, she came across an open position at Pearl Interactive Network (Pearl).
In August 2013, Fry began her career at Pearl’s Winchester, Kentucky contact center as an administrative assistant. Two years later she was promoted to site administrator. The biggest part of her job is working with numbers and statistics – which happens to be her favorite part of the job.
Fry has nothing but good things to say about her decision to work for Pearl. “I like all the people I work with, and work for,” she said. “The whole management team here works really well together.”
Because her previous jobs were temporary, Fry said if she didn’t like the job, she knew she would eventually be leaving when her husband got transferred. “I needed to find a job where I actually like going to work,” Fry added. “It’s nice to say I like going to work here every day.”
