Stanford University Announces Launch of Stanford 2 to 4: A Veteran’s Accelerator

All-inclusive scholarship program supports transfer from 2 year to 4 year institutions

Stanford, CA.— Stanford 2 to 4: A Veteran’s AcceleratorStanford University Summer Session announced the launch of Stanford 2 to 4: A Veteran’s Accelerator, an all-inclusive 8-week summer scholarship program aiming to empower Veterans to move from community colleges to four-year institutions. The scholarship program will cover all expenses including tuition and fees, private bedroom accommodations in a shared on-campus suite, a 14-meal per week dining plan, and a $400 book stipend.

“The program aims to partner with and build on a Veteran’s vast experience to provide important academic skills needed to thrive in a competitive 4-year university, while earning Stanford University credits,” said Jess Matthews, Associate Dean and Director at Stanford University Summer Session. Veterans in the accelerator will take a common Writing and Rhetoric course and choose another course with an advisor.

William Treseder, a Stanford alumnus who served in the Marines for 10 years, brought the idea to Stanford University. He was inspired by an op-ed piece written by Wick Sloan, a professor at Bunker Hill Community College. “Most of us are not pushed to our full potential because we do not have exposure to the rigorous standards and supportive atmosphere of an elite institution like Stanford,” said Treseder. He hopes the program will improve the educational and professional trajectory of enlisted Veterans around the United States.

The program has been further developed under the leadership of Charles Junkerman, Associate Provost and Dean of Continuing Studies and in partnership with alumni, current students, and faculty. Stanford 2 to 4: A Veteran’s Accelerator will combine academics, advising, and mentorship with the goal of creating meaningful change for its students.

William Treseder is a partner at BMNT Partners, helping Silicon Valley startups grow by solving challenging government problems. He is a proud alumnus of Stanford University and proud veteran having served in the US Marines from 2001 to 2011.
