Executives who work in small companies wear many hats. Such is the case with Tom, chief integration officer for a 20-employee supply chain solutions company, and a client of Pearl Interactive Network.
Tom’s company provides a broad range of services for the commercial aviation, railroad, medical industries, and the Department of Defense. The company’s turnkey services include providing sourcing, material, and logistics solutions. Tom’s main focus is business development – identifying new revenue opportunities for the company, as well as developing technical capabilities and supply chain processes and initiatives that will position the company for future growth.
Part of his integration work includes transforming the workforce to accommodate the growth of new opportunities. His current focus includes warehousing, distribution, and IT services. Many of the jobs require specific skill sets that do not exist in the company today. Unlike larger companies that maintain formidable recruiting or training divisions within their HR departments, Tom’s company doesn’t have the resources to recruit or train new employees with the unique skills required for each job.
Because Tom is a retired naval officer, he understands the added value the company receives by hiring our country’s veterans. Tom turned to Pearl to source military veteran job candidates, and was not disappointed.
“We instituted a 2-week working interview process with Pearl,” Tom explained. “We received 5 applicants for each open position, and I could have picked any one of those candidates, placed them into the job in our company, and they would have been ready to work. We have never used the entire two-week period to extend an offer to any of our candidates.”
Tom believes the job-readiness of new recruits makes for a seamless and efficient transition of new employees because there’s no need for a training period. In addition, he says Pearl makes his recruiting duties of finding quality candidates a smooth and simple process.
“We didn’t have to spend an excess amount of time looking for employees,” he said. “Pearl has helped us accelerate our ability to move the company forward.
“The pressure has been taken off of us to find qualified candidates – it’s one less thing HR has to do.”
Tom is now planning to bid on another government project, and has no qualms about finding employees, should the company win the award.
“The types of candidates Pearl has provided has significantly enabled our growth, just by building support staff around our sales force,” Tom added. “Pearl allows small companies like us to accumulate the right human capital to help us build our infrastructure.
“I’m now comfortable filling positions with candidates who are job-ready. Pearl has exceeded our expectations.”
