In recognition of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, our featured employee is Lillian, who uses assistive technology to perform her job as a corporate recruiter. Lillian sources candidates for job openings at Pearl, and has successfully worked in other departments within the company during her almost eight-year tenure.
How have you maintained a successful career despite your disability?
“I believe a great attitude plays a large part in one’s success. I am a person who happens to have a disability, not a ‘disabled’ person.”
How has working for Pearl Interactive Network benefited you professionally and/or personally?
“Pearl is unique — serving and hiring a niche population — and has always been ahead of the times providing reasonable accommodations. The ability to work from the comfort of my own home is an ideal situation. In my eight years as a Pearl employee, I have worked on several projects and have learned numerous, valuable new skills.”
What is one piece of advice you would offer for individuals with disabilities on how to manage their job search and/or career?
“As a recruiter I believe it is important to always present yourself in a professional manner in both your written and communication skills. Staying up to date with new technology and software is essential.”
