Greg Cobble has a knack for solving problems. Which is probably why he is thriving as a customer service representative (CSR) at Pearl Interactive Network’s contact center. Cobble helps callers navigate the many health care plans and options available to consumers, answers their questions, and assists them in enrolling in health insurance.
Cobble is a Marine Corps veteran from the Vietnam era. Before coming to Pearl he was self-employed, repairing computers for his clients. Due to an injury to his back he sustained years ago, his job opportunities were limited.
“I was restricted to a maximum lift of 20 lbs., and I could only work for a couple hours on my feet,” he recalled. “There aren’t a lot of job opportunities with those kind of restrictions. Employers want you on your feet eight hours a day.”
Over time, the work he performed in his computer repair business brought new challenges. Because of his limited mobility, he sometimes needed to bring his kids with him to move the computers. On several occasions he asked his customers to bring the computers to him so he wouldn’t have to lift them.
Cobble’s son was working for Pearl at its Winchester, Kentucky contact center, and encouraged him to apply for a customer service position. Cobble did, and was hired immediately. Just like helping his clients solve their computer problems, Cobble is now helping people sign up for health care coverage. He often gets calls from customers who encounter problems and issues filling out the insurance application.
Cobble plans to stay at Pearl “as long as he can” and would eventually consider applying for a supervisor position should the opportunity arise. His favorite part of the job is solving problems – “I love being able to help somebody that needs help.”
